The successful candidate will work closely with home parents, probation officers, and external agencies to create a protective, nurturing environment. This is a full-time, non-residential position requiring approximately two overnight stays per month, offering a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct child protection assessments and develop individualised case management plans for each child in the home.
- Facilitate family tracing and reintegration processes, ensuring safe and sustainable return to communities whenever possible.
- Monitor and report on children’s educational, emotional, and physical wellbeing through regular documentation and case reviews.
- Coordinate daily operations of the Children’s Home, including scheduling, staffing, and maintaining a safe residential environment.
- Guide and mentor Home Parents, providing training on child development, behaviour management, and safeguarding practices.
- Liaise with probation officers, social services, and local authorities to ensure compliance with national child protection standards.
- Maintain accurate case files, incident reports, and progress notes to support audits, inspections, and funding requirements.
- Organise group activities, life skills sessions, and therapeutic interventions to support children’s holistic development and recovery.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- At least three years of hands-on professional experience in child protection, residential childcare, or community-based social work.
- Demonstrated practical skills in case management, risk assessment, and family reintegration within a Ugandan context.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to present reports to multidisciplinary teams and authorities.
- Proven ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues, families, and external partners.
Desirable
- Previous experience working in a Children’s Home or residential childcare setting, particularly in northern Uganda.
- Direct involvement in family reintegration programmes, including post-reintegration follow-up and community linkage.
- A genuine Christian faith aligned with the values and mission of God Helps Uganda, demonstrating commitment to service.
- Experience coordinating with probation services, police, or court systems in child welfare cases.
- Fluency in local languages such as Luo, Acoli, or Lango to communicate effectively with children and families in Lira.
What the Role Offers
- A competitive monthly salary commensurate with qualifications, experience, and the responsibilities of the role.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and immediate dependents, including outpatient and inpatient services.
- Support for professional development, including access to training workshops, conferences, and certification programmes in social work.
- Flexible scheduling with only two overnight stays required per month, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.
- A supportive and values-driven organisational culture that prioritises child safety, dignity, and spiritual wellbeing.
