Job Overview
NITA Uganda seeks a Temporary Infrastructure Implementation Engineer to support national IT infrastructure expansion. This role focuses on network deployment, last-mile connectivity, and backhaul growth. You will work on critical projects that enhance Uganda’s digital landscape. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor NITA-U infrastructure health through scheduled periodic assessments to identify potential issues early.
- Conduct field surveys required to develop accurate designs for new network installations across Uganda.
- Supervise installation of optical fibre cables, optical switching networks, and civil works for backhaul extensions.
- Provide technical support to public and private sector agencies undertaking IT infrastructure projects to ensure quality standards.
- Support project design and development processes by contributing technical expertise and documentation.
- Perform repairs and relocations on existing infrastructure as needed to maintain service continuity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of network expansion projects.
- Document all project activities, including installations, surveys, and maintenance operations for reporting purposes.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 6 months working experience in deployment of last-mile networks, backhaul networks, and connectivity projects in Uganda or similar environments.
- Strong technical competencies in last-mile connectivity technologies, optical switching technology, and wireless technologies relevant to Ugandan infrastructure contexts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining credibility, trust, and partnership with stakeholders across Uganda.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili, with strong report writing capabilities for technical documentation.
Desirable
- Certificates in Operation and Maintenance of Campus Networks and Wireless Networks from accredited training providers.
- Previous experience working on government or donor-funded IT infrastructure projects in Uganda.
- Familiarity with Ugandan regulatory frameworks and standards for telecommunications infrastructure deployment.
- Hands-on experience with fibre optic splicing, testing, and network troubleshooting equipment commonly used in East Africa.
- Project management certifications or training in infrastructure implementation methodologies.
