Job Overview

Twyford International Uganda is seeking an experienced Transportation Specialist to oversee and optimize all aspects of transport operations within the company’s logistics network. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate daily transport schedules to ensure optimal vehicle and driver utilization across all routes.
  • Optimize delivery routes and assign appropriate vehicles and drivers based on cargo type, distance, and delivery windows.
  • Manage relationships with external carriers, negotiate service rates, and evaluate performance against agreed service levels.
  • Track shipments in real-time using GPS and TMS systems to ensure on-time delivery and proactive issue resolution.
  • Monitor transport costs, fuel consumption, and maintenance expenses to prepare detailed operational reports for management.
  • Resolve transport-related issues including delays, damages, vehicle breakdowns, and customs clearance problems promptly.
  • Ensure full compliance with Ugandan transport laws, safety regulations, and company policies across all operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing transport data and implementing best practices in logistics management.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of hands-on experience in transportation and logistics operations within East Africa or similar environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of route planning software, carrier management principles, and shipment tracking methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS), GPS tracking platforms, and advanced MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Fluent in English with excellent spoken and written communication skills for professional interaction with stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of major Uganda and East Africa transport corridors, border procedures, and customs documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex logistical problems, communicate effectively, and negotiate favorable service agreements.

Desirable

  • Valid Ugandan driving permit which allows for occasional vehicle operation and better understanding of driver challenges.
  • Previous experience working with manufacturing or tile distribution companies in the construction materials sector.
  • Familiarity with East African Community (EAC) trade protocols and regional vehicle load limit regulations.
  • Certification in logistics, transport management, or supply chain optimization from a recognized professional body.
  • Experience with fuel management systems and telematics for monitoring driver behavior and vehicle performance.
  • Knowledge of sustainable transport practices and experience implementing green logistics initiatives.
