Start Hub Africa
Job Overview
The StartHub Graduate Internship Program offers a structured four‑month placement for recent graduates and individuals up to two years post‑university. Participants are placed in real teams at Start Hub Africa where they contribute to live projects while receiving day‑to‑day mentorship. The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace productivity by giving interns genuine responsibility and feedback.
Interns choose a focus area among Project Management, Social Media Marketing (content creation), or Financial Services/Accounting. Regardless of the track, the emphasis is on learning by doing, with regular check‑ins, skill‑building workshops, and exposure to the organisation’s mission of youth empowerment across Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
In the Project Management track, interns assist in planning timelines, coordinating tasks, tracking progress, and preparing status reports for ongoing initiatives. They learn to use basic project tools, participate in team meetings, and help identify risks and mitigation strategies under the guidance of a senior project lead.
For the Social Media Marketing track, interns create engaging content for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. They draft copy, select visuals, schedule posts, monitor engagement metrics, and suggest improvements based on analytics, all while receiving feedback from the marketing coordinator.
In the Financial Services/Accounting track, interns support the finance team with bookkeeping tasks, preparing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and assisting with basic financial reporting. They gain exposure to accounting software, learn about internal controls, and help ensure compliance with organisational policies.
Qualifications & Experience
The programme is open to fresh graduates or anyone who has completed university within the last two years. No specific degree is required for the Project Management or Social Media Marketing tracks; the selection focuses on competencies such as communication, problem solving, and a willingness to learn.
Applicants to the Financial Services track must hold a general accounting degree or equivalent qualification. Prior experience with SME finance or investment readiness is not mandatory, but candidates should demonstrate basic numeracy skills and an interest in developing financial expertise.
All candidates should be coachable, proactive, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Benefits & Perks
Interns receive a monthly stipend that helps cover basic living expenses while they gain practical experience. The programme also provides access to a work readiness workshop that covers topics such as professional etiquette, CV writing, interview skills, and workplace communication.
Mentorship is a core component; each intern is paired with a experienced staff member who offers regular feedback, career advice, and support for skill development. This relationship often continues beyond the formal internship period.
Additionally, successful interns may be considered for future full‑time roles at Start Hub Africa or receive recommendations for other opportunities within the organisation’s network of partners across Uganda.
