Management Accountant

Job Overview

GAMEPROS Uganda is seeking a skilled Management Accountant to join its finance team in Uganda. The role involves overseeing accounting controls, monitoring financial performance, and supporting budgeting and cost control initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. In this position, you will also manage payroll processes, develop relationships with internal stakeholders, and contribute to staff development within the finance department.

Key Responsibilities

You will design and implement robust accounting controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. This includes reviewing existing procedures, identifying gaps, and introducing improvements that align with international best practices. Regular monitoring and testing of these controls will be part of your routine to detect and prevent errors or fraud.

You will track monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and key performance indicators to provide insight into the company’s financial health. By preparing management reports, you will highlight trends, risks, and opportunities that inform strategic decisions. Your analysis will support the leadership team in adjusting budgets and forecasts as needed.

You will assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, working closely with department heads to gather inputs. Throughout the fiscal year, you will monitor actual spending against budgeted amounts and explain any significant variances. Your role will also involve identifying cost-saving opportunities and recommending actions to improve profitability.

You will coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process, providing necessary documentation and explanations. Ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local tax regulations will be a core responsibility. You will also maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accounting standards and advise the finance team accordingly.

You will oversee the payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate payment of salaries, statutory deductions, and benefits to all employees. In addition, you will build strong relationships with department managers, HR, and external partners to facilitate smooth financial operations. Staff mentoring and development will also be part of your duties, helping to build a capable finance team.

Qualifications & Experience

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required for this position. Holding a professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA is considered an added advantage and demonstrates commitment to the profession. Candidates with at least three years of experience in finance management or a similar accounting role will be given preference.

You must be able to multitask effectively, handling multiple deadlines without compromising accuracy. A high degree of integrity and trustworthiness is essential, as you will be responsible for sensitive financial information. The ability to work independently while also collaborating with team members is crucial for success in this role.

Proficiency with computerized accounting systems and ERP software is required, as the role operates in a highly computerized environment. Strong organizational skills and the capacity to work under pressure during month-end close or audit periods are expected. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills will enable you to convey financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
