Key Responsibilities
The Finance Assistant will handle a variety of financial duties that keep the office running smoothly. Tasks range from routine bookkeeping to supporting month-end close activities. Attention to detail and timely execution are essential for success in this position.
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense claims, ensuring proper coding and timely payment within agreed terms.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable, performing regular reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow summaries for management review.
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts by gathering historical data and updating spreadsheets with actual figures.
- Generate weekly cash position reports and monitor bank transactions to ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
- Assist with payroll processing, verifying employee hours, calculating deductions, and coordinating with the HR department for timely disbursement.
- Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations by preparing VAT returns, withholding tax filings, and supporting annual audit preparations.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems for all financial documents, ensuring easy retrieval and adherence to retention policies.

Qualifications & Experience

The following qualifications are mandatory for consideration for the Finance Assistant position.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Two to three years of hands-on experience in accounting, finance, or an administrative role with financial duties.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization techniques.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms used for bookkeeping and reporting.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and external partners.
Desirable

- Knowledge of Ugandan tax laws, including VAT, PAYE, and corporate income tax compliance requirements.
