Uganda Registration Services Bureau

Job Overview

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is seeking three motivated individuals to fill Project Officer positions under the TREP initiative. These roles are designed for candidates who have recently completed their studies and are eager to begin a professional career in public service. The positions are based in Kampala and offer a unique opportunity to contribute to national business registration reforms while gaining hands‑on experience in project coordination, community outreach, and data reporting.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Officer you will work closely with the Uganda Revenue Authority and various local government offices to implement TREP activities across the country. This involves planning outreach events, coordinating mobile office deployments, and ensuring that all logistical arrangements are in place for smooth operations. You will be expected to travel to different districts to set up temporary registration desks and assist entrepreneurs with the formalization process.

Another core duty is to sensitize the business community about their rights and obligations concerning business registration and formalization. You will develop simple informational materials, conduct short talks at marketplaces, and answer questions from traders about the benefits of registering their enterprises. Your communication skills will be essential in building trust and encouraging compliance with regulatory requirements.

Through the mobile offices you will bring registration services directly to clients, reducing the need for them to travel to urban centres. You will assist business owners with procedures such as company name reservation, filing of annual returns, amendments to legal documents, and updates to shareholder information. Each interaction will be recorded and you will provide guidance on the correct forms and supporting documents needed.

You will also support the processing of business names, companies, and other legal documents by verifying data, preparing files for submission, and tracking the status of applications. Attention to detail is crucial to ensure that records are accurate and that clients receive timely feedback on their submissions.

Regular reporting is a key aspect of the role. You will compile weekly and monthly reports that summarize the number of registrations completed, challenges encountered, and recommendations for improvement. These reports will be submitted to the program owner and used to inform decision‑making at the bureau level.

Finally, you must be prepared to perform any other duties assigned by the program owner or senior management. This flexibility ensures that the project can adapt to emerging needs and that you gain a broad range of experience within the public sector.

Qualifications & Experience

The position is open to holders of an Honors Degree in fields such as Business Administration, Law, ICT, Social Sciences, Arts, Commerce, Social Work and Social Administration, Community Development, Development Studies, Business Computing, Communication, or Marketing. This diverse list reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the TREP project and the value of different perspectives in solving registration challenges.

Applicants should demonstrate basic computer literacy, including proficiency with word processing software, spreadsheets, and email communication. Familiarity with database management tools is an advantage but not a requirement, as on‑the‑job training will be provided.

Strong communication skills are essential because you will interact regularly with business owners, government officials, and colleagues. You must be able to convey information clearly in both English and Luganda, listen actively to concerns, and adapt your message to different audiences.

Customer care abilities are highly valued. You will be the face of the bureau in the field, and a courteous, patient approach will help build positive relationships with the public. Demonstrated experience in volunteer work, internships, or any role that involved serving customers will be considered favorably.

Although the advertisement states “no experience”, any prior exposure to project work, community outreach, or administrative tasks will strengthen your application. The bureau is looking for individuals who show initiative, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Benefits & Perks

Working with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau offers a competitive salary that is commensurate with qualifications and the responsibilities of the role. In addition to the basic pay, employees receive a monthly housing allowance to assist with accommodation costs in Kampala or other duty stations.

A transport facilitation package is provided, which may include a fuel reimbursement or a shuttle service to ensure that officers can reach field sites without undue financial burden. This support is particularly important given the travel demands of the TREP project.

Employees are entitled to a daily lunch allowance or access to subsidized meals at the bureau’s cafeteria, helping to maintain energy levels during long days of outreach and reporting.

Comprehensive health insurance coverage is offered, covering inpatient and outpatient services for the employee and their immediate dependents. This benefit ensures peace of mind and access to quality medical care when needed.

The bureau also provides opportunities for professional development through short courses, workshops, and on‑the‑job training. Employees can attend sessions on topics such as project management, data analysis, and public sector ethics, enhancing their long‑term career prospects.

Finally, the role offers a sense of purpose by contributing to the formalization of Uganda’s private sector, which drives economic growth, increases tax revenues, and supports job creation. Being part of a national initiative that improves the ease of doing business is a rewarding experience for any young professional.
