Finance Administrator – Abaana Ministries

Job Overview

Abaana Ministries Uganda Limited seeks a mature Christian professional to serve as Finance Administrator. This role supports the organisation’s mission to empower vulnerable children through sound financial management. The position requires integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to Christian stewardship principles.

Based in Kira, Wakiso with occasional fieldwork, the Finance Administrator ensures donor funds are properly accounted for and reported. You will work within a faith-based NGO environment where financial transparency is paramount to maintaining trust with UK and Irish church partners.

The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and supporting budget monitoring processes. You will contribute to the organisation’s accountability framework while upholding the highest standards of financial integrity in a donor-funded setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate monthly financial reports including income statements and balance sheets for management review.
• Maintain complete and up-to-date accounting records using QuickBooks software for all organisational transactions.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure all company accounts match bank statements accurately.
• Monitor budget expenditures against approved plans and flag variances for timely management intervention.
• Process payroll calculations including PAYE and NSSF deductions in compliance with Ugandan tax regulations.
• Assist with financial audit preparations by organizing supporting documentation and schedules.
• Manage petty cash disbursements and maintain proper voucher systems for small expenses.
• Support procurement processes by verifying financial availability and processing payment requests.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce with Accounting option, or Business Administration from a recognised university.
• Minimum 2-3 years of relevant finance or accounting experience preferably in NGOs or Christian ministries.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Office applications for financial reporting and analysis.
• Proven experience using QuickBooks accounting software for daily bookkeeping and financial management.
• Valid Ugandan driving permit for automatic vehicles with at least two years clean driving record.
• Level II of a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent.

Desirable

• Experience working with donor-funded projects and understanding of international grant management requirements.
• Familiarity with Ugandan Public Finance Management Act and NGO regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Knowledge of financial management systems beyond QuickBooks such as Sage or Oracle Financials.
• Previous experience in preparing financial statements for external auditors and regulatory bodies.
• Understanding of foreign exchange management and multi-currency accounting in international organisations.
