Job Overview
Beyond Logistics Limited is seeking a strategic Head of Finance & Business Control to lead financial discipline and operational efficiency. This role is central to achieving the company’s Single Big Objective of improving resource use, reducing unit costs, and growing margin-positive revenue. The successful candidate will report directly to the Managing Director and oversee finance, governance, ICT, contracts, and HR functions.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will ensure all growth is profitable and financially controlled. You will establish visibility into costs, drive cost reduction initiatives, and maintain strong governance and compliance frameworks. Your work will directly support sustainable growth by strengthening financial, legal, HR, and systems foundations across the organisation.
This position offers the opportunity to shape financial strategy in a growing logistics company operating in Uganda. You will partner with commercial and operational teams to validate pricing, analyse client profitability, and ensure no loss-making contracts are entered without proper approval. The role demands both technical excellence and strategic influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management to ensure accuracy and timeliness across all business units.
- Develop and maintain a cost per CBM model and ensure regular tracking to support cost discipline and efficiency improvements.
- Drive cost control initiatives across all departments by monitoring expenditures and identifying savings opportunities.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing, revenue recognition, and reconciliation to maintain healthy cash flow and working capital.
- Monitor and improve working capital management including receivables, payables, and cash conversion cycles.
- Validate pricing for all major deals to ensure margin integrity and prevent loss-making contracts from being approved.
- Provide client-level profitability analysis to support the Head of Commercial in pricing decisions and contract evaluations.
- Lead tax planning strategy to optimise the company’s tax position while ensuring full compliance with VAT, PAYE, WHT, NSSF, and other statutory obligations.
- Manage tax audits and regulatory interactions, working with external advisors where required to resolve complex tax matters.
- Oversee management of contracts, legal documents, land titles, and leases to ensure they are up to date, version controlled, and reflect latest board decisions.
- Maintain oversight of legal risks and coordinate with external lawyers to protect the company’s interests.
- Ensure board and strategic decisions are properly documented and implemented across governance, admin, HR, and compliance functions.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognised university.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent is required to demonstrate technical competence.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a senior managerial or head of department role.
- Proven experience in financial control, budgeting, cost management, and tax compliance within a medium to large organisation.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Ugandan tax laws including VAT, PAYE, WHT, and NSSF regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain cost models, particularly cost per unit metrics in logistics or similar industries.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration will be considered an added advantage.
- Experience working in the logistics, transport, or supply chain industry in Uganda or East Africa.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial software used for reporting, budgeting, and financial control.
- Experience in contract management, legal oversight, and governance frameworks in a corporate setting.
- Prior involvement in strategic planning, margin improvement initiatives, or cost-to-serve modelling exercises.
