Job Overview

Optica Kenya Limited is seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to lead revenue growth and retail footprint expansion across Uganda. This role focuses on securing insurance panel inclusions, optimizing partnerships, and identifying strategic retail locations for business growth. The successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership to drive market penetration and brand visibility in the optical healthcare sector.

Based in Kampala, this full-time position offers the opportunity to shape Optica’s market presence in Uganda through strategic partnership development and retail expansion initiatives. The role requires a proactive individual with strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of the healthcare and insurance landscape.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with insurance providers, corporate medical schemes, and parastatal organizations to ensure Optica’s services are accessible to a wide customer base. This position plays a crucial role in driving sustainable business growth and market leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Secure and maintain Optica’s inclusion on panels of all optical insurance providers, corporate in-house medical schemes, and parastatal organizations across Uganda.
  • Develop tailored growth strategies for existing insurance partners based on ground realities, localized market dynamics, and customer demographics to maximize monthly business volume.
  • Build direct relationships with corporate HR and wellness leads to drive brand visibility and exclusive optical service offerings for employee benefit programs.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend high-potential retail locations for Optica store expansion based on market analysis, foot traffic, and demographic studies.
  • Resolve service delivery bottlenecks by collaborating with operations and customer service teams to ensure seamless customer experience and partner satisfaction.
  • Monitor competitor activities and market trends to inform strategic decision-making and maintain Optica’s competitive advantage in the Ugandan optical market.
  • Prepare regular performance reports and forecasts for executive leadership, highlighting key metrics, growth opportunities, and potential risks to business objectives.
  • Represent Optica at industry events, conferences, and networking forums to enhance brand presence and explore new partnership opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Healthcare Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in business development, sales, or partnership management within the healthcare, insurance, or retail sectors.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing and managing corporate partnerships, insurance panel inclusions, or similar business development initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Uganda’s healthcare insurance landscape, including knowledge of major medical schemes and corporate benefit structures.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at senior levels.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with optical, dental, or healthcare service providers in East Africa.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan insurance regulations and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Experience in retail site selection, commercial real estate evaluation, or franchise expansion.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and data analysis tools for tracking partnership performance and market trends.
