This role is critical in ensuring a safe, presentable, and efficient working environment for all employees and visitors.

The successful candidate will manage cleaning teams, coordinate facility upkeep, and enforce strict hygiene protocols in offices, showrooms, warehouses, and common areas. This position is based in Kampala, Uganda, and requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual committed to high standards of workplace cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily cleaning activities of assigned teams across all company premises to ensure consistent hygiene and cleanliness standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of offices, showrooms, washrooms, kitchens, and common areas to identify areas requiring maintenance, restocking, or immediate cleaning attention.
  • Develop and implement schedules for cleaning supplies procurement, equipment maintenance, and facility upgrades to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Train cleaning staff on proper hygiene protocols, safety procedures, and the correct use of cleaning agents and equipment to prevent accidents and damage.
  • Respond promptly to employee or visitor complaints regarding cleanliness, odour, or facility issues, and take corrective action to resolve them efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed logs of cleaning activities, incidents, and maintenance requests to ensure accountability and provide reports when required by management.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure that facility standards are maintained during events, overtime work, or after-hours operations without disrupting normal business activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local health, safety, and environmental regulations related to waste disposal, sanitation, and workplace hygiene to avoid legal or regulatory penalties.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification, with proven experience in administration, facilities management, or a related field in Uganda.
  • At least one year of hands-on experience supervising cleaning teams or managing facility hygiene services in a corporate, manufacturing, or retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning protocols, sanitation standards, and facility maintenance practices applicable to offices, warehouses, and showrooms.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to coordinate with staff, vendors, and management effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and make decisions under pressure while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Desirable

  • Diploma or certificate in Facilities Management, Public Health, or a related discipline from a recognised Ugandan institution.
  • Experience working in the electronics, retail, or manufacturing sector, particularly in Kampala or surrounding areas.
  • Familiarity with local waste management regulations and environmental health guidelines enforced by the Ministry of Health or Kampala Capital City Authority.
  • Proficiency in using basic office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel for record-keeping, scheduling, and reporting purposes.
  • Previous training or certification in occupational health and safety, first aid, or hygiene management would be an added advantage.

What the Role Offers

  • A competitive monthly salary ranging from USh 300,000 to USh 500,000, depending on experience and performance, paid on a regular monthly schedule.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and immediate family members, ensuring access to quality medical care in Kampala and surrounding areas.
  • Transport allowance to cover daily commute costs, especially for early morning or late evening shifts, reducing personal transportation expenses.
  • Free lunch provided during working hours, prepared in a hygienic, company-managed kitchen facility to support employee well-being and productivity.
  • Opportunities for professional development through internal training programs, workshops, and potential advancement into senior administrative or facilities management roles within SMARTEC.
