As part of JRS’s Economic Inclusion and Livelihoods program, the successful candidate will deliver computer training to displaced persons while maintaining IT infrastructure for the Adjumani project office. This dual-role position requires both teaching aptitude and technical troubleshooting skills to ensure learners gain marketable competencies and office systems remain operational.

The role reports directly to the Economic Inclusion and Livelihood Coordinator and collaborates with the Kampala Project IT Officer. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and update computer literacy training materials aligned with competency-based vocational curricula for refugee learners.
  • Deliver engaging instruction in basic computer operations including typing, file management, and internet navigation to diverse student groups.
  • Teach advanced modules covering computer networking principles, hardware troubleshooting, and software installation procedures.
  • Create and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment tools that track student progress throughout training cycles.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Adjumani office staff including hardware setup, software updates, and peripheral device configuration.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 services for the project office including user account administration, license allocation, and security compliance monitoring.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure reliability through regular network monitoring, backup verification, and documentation of system configurations per JRS standards.
  • Collaborate with Kampala-based IT Officer to escalate complex technical issues and implement standardized solutions across JRS Uganda operations.
  • Uphold JRS safeguarding principles including PSEAH and Do No Harm policies in all training environments and technical interactions.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of IT equipment and coordinate timely repairs or replacements through established procurement channels.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Education, or a closely related technical field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum two years of proven experience delivering computer training to adult learners in vocational or community education settings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Windows operating systems, and basic networking concepts including TCP/IP fundamentals.
  • Valid certification in IT support or networking such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent practical expertise verified through references.
  • Experience providing end-user technical support in NGO or humanitarian contexts including ticketing systems and remote assistance tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to learners with limited English proficiency or formal education.

Desirable

  • Previous work experience with refugee populations or in humanitarian settings understanding cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Familiarity with vocational training frameworks such as Uganda’s Business, Technical, and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) system.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems and open-source software alternatives beneficial for resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) or digital platforms used to deliver and track educational content remotely.
  • Certification in cybersecurity fundamentals or data protection principles relevant to handling beneficiary information securely.
  • Ability to speak one or more local languages spoken in Adjumani such as Lugbara, Madi, or Acholi to enhance learner engagement.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, paid in Ugandan Shillings with statutory deductions processed correctly.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage including inpatient and outpatient services for the employee and immediate dependents.
  • Generous leave package including annual leave, sick leave, and maternity/paternity leave in accordance with Ugandan labor laws and JRS policies.
  • Professional development opportunities including access to online courses, workshops, and certification funding relevant to IT and training fields.
