Job Overview

Furaha Financial is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the role of Lead- Asset Lending. This senior position is based in Uganda and reports directly to the executive leadership team. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the asset lending strategy, overseeing product development, managing credit risk, and driving portfolio performance to meet the company’s growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Business Leadership: Develop and execute the company’s asset lending strategy in line with overall business goals. Identify new lending opportunities, target customer segments, and potential revenue streams. Define the product roadmap and set commercial priorities for lending products. Establish clear lending policies, pricing strategies, collateral frameworks, and portfolio limits. Take full ownership of the profit and loss statement for the asset lending business.

Lending Product Development: Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to design and launch innovative lending solutions that meet market needs. Champion a digital-first approach across the entire lending lifecycle, including onboarding, underwriting, servicing, collateral monitoring, and collections. Continuously enhance the customer experience by refining digital lending journeys and incorporating user feedback.

Credit & Risk Management: Design and oversee credit underwriting standards and approval frameworks that ensure sound lending practices. Develop collateral eligibility criteria and loan-to-value (LTV) policies that balance risk and return. Monitor portfolio performance, concentration risks, and stress scenarios to detect early warning signs. Implement robust credit monitoring systems, early warning indicators, and loss mitigation strategies. Collaborate with the Risk team to ensure lending activities remain within the approved risk appetite.

Portfolio Management: Track loan portfolio performance against key metrics such as growth, yield, delinquency, and loss targets. Optimize portfolio profitability while maintaining prudent risk controls. Manage collateral valuations and conduct ongoing exposure monitoring. Lead portfolio analytics and reporting for executive management and the Board, providing insights that inform strategic decisions.

Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure all lending activities comply with Ugandan financial regulations and internal policies. Stay abreast of regulatory changes and adapt lending practices accordingly. Work with Compliance and Legal teams to maintain proper documentation, reporting, and audit readiness. Foster a culture of compliance and ethical lending throughout the organization.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Sales, and Executive Leadership to align efforts and achieve shared goals. Communicate lending performance, risks, and opportunities clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Represent the asset lending business in internal meetings, investor presentations, and industry forums.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or professional certification such as CFA, ACCA, or CPA is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Professional Experience: Minimum of eight years of experience in asset lending, corporate banking, or financial services, with at least three years in a managerial or leadership role. Proven track record of developing and scaling lending products, managing credit risk, and delivering profitable portfolios.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of asset-based lending principles, collateral management, and loan structuring. Proficiency in financial analysis, credit risk modeling, and portfolio management tools. Familiarity with digital lending platforms and experience in driving digital transformation initiatives.

Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, foster collaboration, and drive performance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to influence stakeholders and build consensus. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and decision-making skills.

Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations, consumer protection laws, and international best practices in lending. Ability to navigate regulatory requirements and ensure compliance across all lending activities.
