Job Overview
Restless Development seeks a dynamic Programme Coordinator to lead youth engagement initiatives across Uganda. This role supports the delivery of transformative programmes that empower young people to drive change in their communities. The position involves coordinating activities across multiple regions including Karamoja, West Nile, Eastern and Central Uganda.
You will work closely with youth leaders, partner organisations and internal teams to ensure programmes meet their objectives. The role requires strong organisational skills and a passion for youth development. This is a 2-year contract with preferred start date in October 2026.
The Programme Coordinator will report to the Programme Manager for Youth Employment and Market Systems. Expect fairly regular domestic and international travel as part of the role. Restless Development is committed to safeguarding and power shifting in all its work.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of youth engagement programmes across 13 districts in Uganda including Karamoja and West Nile regions.
- Support the Uganda Youth Collective by facilitating meetings and activities for over 600 youth-led organisations.
- Monitor programme progress against targets and prepare regular reports for the Programme Manager and donors.
- Build and maintain relationships with youth leaders, community groups and local government officials.
- Organise training workshops and capacity building sessions for young people on entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
- Ensure all programme activities comply with Restless Development’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Contribute to policy influencing efforts through the National Youth Working Group and other advocacy platforms.
- Manage programme budgets and resources efficiently in accordance with financial guidelines.
- Document lessons learned and best practices to improve future programme design and delivery.
- Represent Restless Development at national and international forums on youth employment and engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Education or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in programme coordination or management within the NGO or development sector.
- Proven experience working with youth programmes and understanding of youth development challenges in Uganda.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience with data management and reporting tools.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Administration or Project Management.
- Experience working specifically in the Karamoja, West Nile or Eastern Uganda regions.
- Knowledge of entrepreneurship development and financial inclusion programmes for young people.
- Experience with gender equality and social inclusion approaches in programme design.
- Familiarity with Restless Development’s power shifting approach and safeguarding standards.
- Ability to speak one or more local Ugandan languages in addition to English.
