Job Overview
Restless Development seeks a dedicated Project Finance & Administration Coordinator to support its youth employment portfolio across multiple Ugandan regions. This role ensures financial compliance, administrative efficiency, and timely reporting for projects in Karamoja, West Nile, Eastern and Central Uganda. The coordinator will work closely with finance and programme teams to enable smooth project delivery.
Based in Kampala with regular domestic and international travel, the position offers a two-year contract starting October 2026. Reporting to the Senior Finance & Administration Manager, the role is central to maintaining organisational financial integrity and supporting youth-led change initiatives. The gross annual salary is UGX 73,299,474.
The organisation focuses on empowering young people to influence decisions affecting their lives while strengthening systems that enable their full potential. Restless Development Uganda coordinates the Uganda Youth Collective, a national platform of over 600 youth-led organisations advocating for policy change through the National Youth Working Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Process project expenditures accurately and timely, ensuring all payments comply with donor regulations and organisational financial policies.
- Maintain updated financial records including cash books, bank reconciliations, and expenditure tracking sheets for multiple project locations.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and forecasts for programme managers, highlighting variances and providing explanations for significant deviations.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and budget revisions in collaboration with project leads and finance managers.
- Coordinate logistical arrangements for workshops, trainings, and field visits, including venue bookings, transport, and accommodation.
- Ensure all project documentation is filed systematically, both physically and electronically, for easy retrieval during audits.
- Monitor utilisation of project funds against approved budgets and alert management to potential overspends or underspends.
- Assist in internal and external audit preparations by providing required schedules, vouchers, and explanations on time.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of three years progressive experience in project finance, administration, or accounts roles within NGOs or development organisations.
- Proficiency in using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Pastel, along with advanced MS Excel skills for financial modelling.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles, donor compliance requirements (e.g., EU, USAID, UN), and public financial management regulations in Uganda.
- Excellent organisational skills with proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritise tasks, and work accurately under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience working with youth employment or livelihoods programmes, particularly in Karamoja, West Nile, or Eastern Uganda regions.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, especially as they relate to financial transactions involving young people or vulnerable groups.
- Previous exposure to coordinating the Uganda Youth Collective or similar national youth platforms is advantageous.
- Familiarity with power shifting principles and commitment to organisational values of equity, inclusion, and youth leadership.
- Ability to travel frequently within Uganda and occasionally internationally, with flexibility to work outside standard hours when needed.
