Job Overview
Mukwano Industries, a leading manufacturer of Fast Moving Consumer Goods in Uganda, is seeking a detail-oriented Receiving Clerk to join its warehouse team in Tororo. This role is critical to ensuring that all incoming materials, equipment, and supplies are accurately received, inspected, and recorded in accordance with company standards and purchase orders. The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining inventory integrity and supporting smooth warehouse operations.
The Receiving Clerk will work closely with procurement, logistics, and stores teams to coordinate deliveries and resolve discrepancies. This position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow warehouse and HSE procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Receive incoming goods, materials, equipment, and supplies delivered to the warehouse and offload them safely.
- Verify received items against purchase orders, delivery notes, and other relevant documentation for accuracy.
- Inspect deliveries for quantity, quality, specifications, and any visible damages or discrepancies upon arrival.
- Record all received items accurately in the warehouse management system and update relevant logs and files.
- Report shortages, excess quantities, damages, or other discrepancies to the Warehouse Supervisor promptly.
- Ensure received goods are properly labelled, identified, and transferred to the appropriate storage locations.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Stores, Logistics, and user departments regarding incoming delivery schedules and issues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date receiving records and documentation for audit and inventory purposes.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials in accordance with warehouse and health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Assist with stock counts, inventory verification, and reconciliation of received materials during monthly cycles.
- Keep the receiving area clean, organised, and free from safety hazards to promote a safe working environment.
- Adhere to company policies, warehouse procedures, and health, safety, and environmental requirements at all times.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor to support team objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, Warehouse Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in warehouse operations, logistics, cargo handling, or inland container depot operations.
- Proven ability to verify goods against documentation and identify discrepancies in quantity or quality.
- Basic computer literacy and experience with data entry in warehouse or inventory systems.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail when recording and processing incoming shipments.
- Ability to follow instructions, work under supervision, and adhere to safety and quality standards.
Desirable
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) or ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of HSE procedures and safe handling practices for industrial materials and chemicals.
- Familiarity with FMCG products, including edible oils, soaps, detergents, and personal care items.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment handling bulk and packaged goods.
- Certificate in occupational health and safety or warehouse operations from a recognised institution.
