Job Overview
True North Uganda seeks a dynamic Relationship Manager – Resources & Energy to lead corporate client engagement in the resources and energy sector. This role focuses on originating and managing financial solutions that drive mutual growth and client satisfaction. Reporting to the Sector Head, you will be instrumental in expanding the bank’s footprint in a high-potential industry.
You will act as the trusted advisor to key clients in mining, oil, gas, and renewable energy, understanding their operational and financial needs. By delivering integrated banking products, you will help clients achieve their strategic objectives while ensuring portfolio quality and profitability. This is a pivotal role for professionals passionate about energy finance and relationship-driven banking.
The position offers exposure to complex transactions including project finance, syndicated lending, and treasury solutions. You will collaborate across functions to deliver seamless client experiences and uphold the highest standards of risk and compliance. Success in this role contributes directly to the bank’s strategic goals in the resources and energy space.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with Resources and Energy sector clients to drive long-term business growth and satisfaction.
- Originate new business opportunities across lending, transaction banking, trade finance, treasury, and capital markets to meet revenue targets.
- Act as the primary relationship lead, deeply understanding client operations to deliver tailored financial solutions that address specific needs.
- Conduct thorough credit analysis, prepare sound credit proposals, and ensure prudent management of credit and portfolio risks.
- Structure and execute complex transactions including project finance, syndicated loans, and structured financing solutions for energy and resources projects.
- Provide clients with valuable industry insights on market trends, regulatory changes, commodity movements, and energy transition opportunities.
- Collaborate effectively with product, risk, legal, and operations teams to ensure integrated solution delivery and seamless transaction execution.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and governance standards while maintaining strong portfolio quality.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate or investment banking, preferably in resources, energy, or commodities sectors.
- Proven track record in client relationship management and business origination within Uganda or East Africa.
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, financial structuring, and risk mitigation techniques in complex transactions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with ability to engage senior stakeholders confidently.
Desirable
- Master’s degree or professional certification such as CFA, ACCA, or equivalent in finance or banking.
- Experience in project finance, syndicated lending, or structured products within the energy or mining value chain.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s regulatory environment for financial institutions and natural resource sectors.
- Knowledge of ESG principles and sustainable finance trends relevant to energy transition initiatives.
- Proficiency in financial modelling and use of banking systems for deal execution and portfolio monitoring.
