Job Overview

Uganda Tea Corporation Limited is seeking an experienced Coffee Manager to oversee all coffee operations at Salama Coffee, located along the Kampala-Jinja highway near Lugazi. This role involves strategic leadership from field operations to cherry reception and processing, ensuring maximum efficiency and premium product quality. The Coffee Manager will manage production teams, optimize factory performance, and implement quality assurance systems to meet operational targets while maximizing profitability and customer satisfaction.

Salama Coffee is a leading coffee producer in Uganda, generating over 2 million kilograms of cherries annually and serving both international (80%) and local (20%) markets. The company also engages in tea, afforestation, cocoa, sugar-cane, and banana farming. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a major agricultural enterprise with significant export potential and community impact in the Buikwe district.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coffee agronomy, processing techniques, and factory operations, with proven ability to lead teams and drive continuous improvement. This is a full-time position based in Uganda, reporting to the General Manager, with application deadline of 31st August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all coffee operations from field to factory, ensuring maximum efficiency and premium product quality.
  • Manage production teams and optimize factory performance through effective planning, coordination, and resource allocation.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance systems to comply with food safety and industry standards throughout the processing chain.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate production planning to achieve operational targets and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends, implement improvements, and maximize profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with field operations to ensure timely cherry reception and optimal processing from harvest to color sorting.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry best practices in coffee processing and handling.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance skills in coffee agronomy, processing, and quality control.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Food Science, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive experience in coffee agronomic practices, processing, and factory operations.
  • Strong knowledge of coffee agronomy, processing techniques, quality assurance, grading, and production planning.
  • Proven expertise in managing operations from cherry reception through to final processing and sorting stages.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities with demonstrated leadership experience.

Desirable

  • Experience working in large-scale coffee or agricultural processing enterprises in East Africa.
  • Familiarity with international coffee quality standards and certification requirements (e.g., Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance).
  • Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and environmental management in coffee production.
  • Experience with ERP or production management software used in agricultural processing.
  • Additional certification in food safety, quality management, or agricultural extension services.
