About Kampala Personal Chef
Kampala Personal Chef provides private chefs to households and businesses across Kampala. Alongside weekly meal prep, dinner parties and catering, we run private cooking classes in clients’ homes. Demand for these classes is strongest in pastry and baking, which is what this role is for.
About the role
Most people who ask us for a cooking class want to learn to bake. Bread, cakes, pastries and the techniques behind them. They are usually complete beginners cooking in their own kitchen, and what they want is someone patient who can explain why a dough behaves the way it does, not only what to do next.
If you enjoy teaching as much as you enjoy baking, this is a good fit. Classes are booked in advance, so you always know your schedule ahead of time.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach private pastry and baking classes in clients’ homes, either one to one or in small groups
- Plan each class around what that client actually wants to learn rather than a fixed syllabus
- Cover the fundamentals properly, including doughs, batters, laminating, proving, and how oven temperature changes a result
- Advise clients on which equipment and ingredients are genuinely worth buying and which are not
- Leave the client able to repeat what they learned on their own, which is the measure of a good class
- Work safely and cleanly in a home kitchen that is not set up like a professional one
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Strong pastry and baking skills, with formal training or solid bakery experience behind them
- The patience to teach someone who has never baked before and may be nervous about it
- Good spoken English and the confidence to lead a session and hold a room
- Ability to explain technique clearly, in plain language, without assuming prior knowledge
- Based in Kampala and able to travel to clients
Desirable
- Previous teaching, demonstration or training experience of any kind
- A repertoire that covers both breads and patisserie rather than one alone
- Experience adapting recipes to ingredients and equipment available in Kampala
- Comfort with photography, since clients often want pictures of what they made
What we offer
- Paid per class, agreed in advance
- Classes booked ahead, so your schedule is predictable and you are never waiting on short notice work
- Clients brought to you, so you teach rather than market yourself
- Flexibility to keep your bakery or catering work alongside this
Who this suits
This role suits a baker or pastry chef who enjoys explaining their craft and does not mind working at a beginner’s pace. It suits someone who finds satisfaction in a client finally getting a dough right. It will not suit someone who prefers to work alone in a production bakery, because teaching is the whole job.
