Job Overview

KABRA Plastics Limited is seeking a skilled Production Supervisor to oversee daily manufacturing operations at their Kampala facility. This role is critical to ensuring that plastic products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and in strict adherence to quality standards and production schedules. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence and meeting customer delivery commitments.

The Production Supervisor will report directly to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for leading a team of production staff across multiple shifts. This position requires strong organizational skills, technical knowledge of plastic manufacturing processes, and the ability to motivate teams to achieve production targets. The role is based in Kampala and operates on a full-time schedule from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to ensure production targets are met on time and within quality specifications.
  • Monitor production processes continuously to maintain consistent adherence to established quality standards and safety protocols.
  • Allocate work assignments to production staff based on skill sets and monitor individual and team performance throughout shifts.
  • Ensure all machines and equipment are operated safely and efficiently, conducting routine checks to prevent breakdowns and hazards.
  • Monitor the availability and proper use of raw materials, minimizing waste and ensuring optimal inventory levels for uninterrupted production.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve workflow efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Train new and existing staff on standard operating procedures, safety practices, and quality control measures specific to plastic extrusion and molding.
  • Prepare and submit daily production reports detailing output, yields, machine utilization, and any incidents or deviations from standard procedures.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule preventive maintenance and respond promptly to equipment malfunctions.
  • Enforce strict compliance with workplace safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a supervisory role within a plastic manufacturing or similar production environment.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret production schedules, work instructions, and technical drawings related to plastic processing.
  • Strong understanding of plastic extrusion, injection molding, or blow molding processes and associated quality control parameters.
  • Demonstrated experience in training production staff and maintaining discipline and productivity on the shop floor.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with team members and management.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology would be an added advantage for career progression within the company.
  • Previous experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems or other international manufacturing standards.
  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance techniques for plastic processing machinery to reduce unexpected breakdowns.
  • Experience using production monitoring software or basic ERP systems for tracking output and material consumption.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety regulations specific to manufacturing environments in Uganda.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekend shifts, to meet urgent production demands.
